Fionnphort-Mull Iona

Isle Of Iona Abbey Tour

Iona Abbey is one of Scotland's most historic and sacred sites. Located on the Isle of Iona, just off the Isle of Mull, it was founded by St Columba and his Irish followers in AD 563. As a celebrated focus for Christian pilgrimage, Iona retains its spiritual atmosphere and remains an enduring symbol of worship. The abbey church was restored at the beginning of the 20th century, whilst work on restoring the living accommodation began in 1938, following the foundation of the Iona Community. Today, the Iona Community continues the tradition of worship first established by St Columba 1,450 years ago.

Surrounded by castles, beaches and west coast islands, the seaside town of Oban is bursting with visitors enjoying fish and chips and peeking into the town’s tearooms and craft shops. For most visitors, Oban is the jumping off point for a holiday in the Hebridean isles. Ferries run to Lismore, Colonsay, Islay, Coll, Tiree, Mull, Barra and South Uist, with Oban being by far the most popular port on Scotland’s northwestern coast. With activities like diving, sea kayaking, hiking and cycling, Oban is also a base for outdoor enthusiasts.

 DAY TWO RETURN

Tobermory-Kilchurn Castle-Drop Off Point

Kilchurn Castle Tour

On route we can arrange a private tour of the iconic Kilchurn Castle.

The castle’s dramatic location at the head of Loch Awe, with the peak of Ben Cruachan visible, is one of the most photographed locations in Scotland. The inscription over the

front door recognises John Earl of Breadalbane and his wife, Countess Mary Campbell, and contains the date of 1693. From the top of Kilchurn Castle, you can see the original

territory of Clan Campbell, On a tiny peninsula at the northern tip of Loch Awe surrounded by glens.

Kilchurn is for anyone who has ever dreamed of having a ruined Scottish castle all to themselves, with no tourist trinket shops around. There isn’t even an attendant at the door

of this picturesque ruin, but despite being unmanned, there are plenty of information boards throughout the castle. Climb to the top of its four-story tower for views of the

loch and surrounding hills. We then make our way over to Craignure to board the ferry back to oban then onto the drop off points.
